Before I Die

Before I die
I want to be given
one last chance
dance in the rain
with my lover
singing and splashing,
eat chicken curry,
see my brother smile
and hear him laugh,
build a fire
to feel the heat and burn,
drink red wine,
reread the Complete Works of Shakespeare,
walk bare foot along the beach at Monknash
where we were told as children
the eggs of dragons’ lay,
blow bubbles across a field
to watch them float and burst,
listen to Trio Zingara by Ravel,
have one final wish
upon a shooting star,
camp in Talybont-On-Usk
amongst my beautiful Beacons,
and take all the batteries out of all the clocks,
because time is painful
when it’s running out.
